Files you would never upload
Client documents, medical scans, journalistic sources, legal exhibits. Sending them to a website to strip a GPS tag defeats the point.

What the desktop version does not do. It does not remove watermarks
hidden inside pixels or wording — no third party can currently detect those, so no
tool can honestly claim to erase them. It removes metadata, and it proves what it
removed. That is the whole promise, and all of it is verifiable.

Downloading is free; using it is not. The application opens on its
activation screen and does nothing else until a licence key is entered. We would
rather you knew that before the download than after it. There is no trial: the free
web version on this site is the trial, and it does the same inspection and the same
cleaning, one file at a time.
Windows will warn you the first time. Here is why, and what to do
When you run the installer, Windows may show a blue screen saying "Windows protected your PC". Nothing is wrong with the file. That screen appears because Windows does not yet recognise us as a publisher — and it will keep appearing until enough people have downloaded QuietMeta without incident.
We would rather explain it than let you find it alone:
- On the blue screen, click More info. The link is small and easy to miss — it sits just under the message.
- A line appears naming the file. Click Run anyway.
- That is all. The screen does not come back for this version.
How to check the file is the one we published. You do not have to
take our word for it. Open PowerShell in the folder where the file landed and run:

We are buying a code-signing certificate, which is what makes that screen go away for good. It takes a few days to be issued, and the reputation it carries builds with downloads. Until then, this page is the honest version of the story.
What you get, and what you do not
You get the application, every update to major version 1, and the right to use it on one computer for as long as you like. You do not get a subscription, a cloud account, or a tool that checks in with us — QuietMeta blocks its own network access at the process level, so it cannot phone home even if a future bug tried to.
